With daylight savings time in effect, there is plenty of sunlight left after work.  Come out and enjoy the afternoon.  I look forward to seeing you and your family at the Club.

I would like to introduce our new Golf Course Superintendent, Neil Riddle.  Neil is a Mississippi State University Agronomy graduate with an emphasis in Golf Turf Management.  He was the assistant golf course superintendent at The Lion Golf Club in Bremen, GA before joining the Starkville Country Club team.  Please welcome Neil to our Club. 

Congratulations to Jim Sisson who is the winner of the May Sunday Buffet drawing.  In order to be eligible for the drawing, you must submit your e-mail address to the Club to be added to the Club’s address book.  If you do not have an e-mail address, simply call and have your name added to the list.  If you have submitted your e-mail address but are not receiving SCC notices, please call to verify your address.  The next drawing will be held May 31, 2005.

About 75% of member e-mail addresses have been submitted to the Club.  Don’t miss out on special advertisements and event reminders.

CRAWFISH BOIL / LIVE MUSIC

 

Come join us May 13 for the first annual SCC Crawfish Boil.  Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm.  Live music provided by Davis Kelly, George Lyon & Roger Clapp will begin at 7:00 pm. This is not a food minimum event.  Please sign up in the club office.  Cost: $12.00/person (plus tax & gratuity)

GREENS RENOVATION PROJECT UPDATE

 

All eight greens and putting green have been shaped and drainage work completed.  The next step will be to adding sand and tilling with existing material.  Upon the completion of this process, it will be time for fumigation followed by sprigging.

 

HATS OFF TO THE FLOWER COMMITTEE

 

Many thanks to Kathy Prentice, Ruth Stewart and Bettye Lenoir for a great job!   Kathy Prentice was responsible for fresh flowers and decorations for the months of March and April.  Ruth Stewart and Bettye Lenoir designed three beautiful silk flower arrangements for the Sunday buffet tables.  Congratulations ladies!  Beverly Smitherman will be responsible for fresh flowers in the months of May and June.

POOL NEWS

 

The pool will be opening Saturday, May 21. 

                        Pool Hours:

                        Tuesday – Saturday              10:00 am - 7:00 pm

                        Sunday                                   1:00 pm – 7:00 pm

 

The pool is for the exclusive use of members, their families and out-of-town guests ONLY.

 

*NOTE: Each Thursday is “In-town Guest Day”. Guests must be accompanied by a member and sign in with attendant/ lifeguard on duty.  Guest fee is $5.00 per person in-town or out-of-town.

 

All pool activities and discipline of pool patrons will be under the supervision of the Club manager and lifeguards.  Unbecoming conduct will not be tolerated and may be punishable by expulsion from the pool.

 

No children under 10 years of age shall be allowed in the pool unless accompanied by an adult (15 years or older) who accepts full responsibility for the child.

 

Swimmers wishing to dine must wear cover up, shirts, etc. in clubhouse (No wet suits in restaurant).  Swimmers are asked to dry off before entering the clubhouse.  Cover-up must be worn in the clubhouse.  Lifeguards have the authority to reprimand and/ or eject anyone from the pool who fails to observe pool rules.

 

Swimmers must register in the pool register upon entering the pool area.  (Out-of-town guests must also register by members’ name). The pool will be closed when thunderstorms or lightning occur.  Please pick up your children promptly if this occurs for a long duration.

MEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION

 

Every Thursday night starting at 5:30 pm, the Men’s Golf Association will have an organized golf outing.  There is a small annual fee to be a part of the Association.  All members regardless of playing ability are welcomed and encouraged to participate.

 

 

MGA PICK-A-PARTNER GOLF TOURNAMENT

 

The Men’s Golf Association will be hosting a one day 4-Man ABCD Scramble on Saturday, May 14 at 1:00 pm.  The tournament pick-a-partner pairings will be held in conjunction with the Crawfish Boil on Friday, May 13.  Please sign up in the club office. Entry fee $20.00/person

 

 

GOLF CLINICS

 

Junior Golf School

Ages 9 & Under                    June 7 – June 10                   8:30 am – 9:30 am

Ages 10 & Up                        June 7 – June 10                   10:00 am – 11:00 am

 

Starting June 22, weekly clinics for both age groups will be offered Wednesday mornings from 8:30 – 9:30 am.

 

Along with golf instruction, all juniors will be exposed to the rules of golf and golf etiquette.  Anyone interested, please call the Pro Shop to sign up as soon as possible.

                                    Cost for School and Weekly Clinics           $50.00

                                    Family Discount for Golf School                  20%

                                    Individuals not attending Golf School          $10.00/clinic

Ladies Golf Clinics

Starting June 22, weekly clinics will be offered on Wednesday from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.  All beginners and experienced golfers are welcome.  This is a great way to meet other ladies interested in playing golf.  Anyone interested, please call the Pro Shop to sign up.

 

LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION

 

The Ladies Golf Association would like to invite all lady members to join them Thursday, May 5, 2005.  They are planning on playing golf each Thursday starting at 5:30 pm.  You do not have to be an experienced golfer to join the group.

TENNIS & LUNCH

 

Rosemarie Moore will be conducting a ladies tennis clinic every Thursday in May.  The clinic will include tennis drills and play.  It will start at 10:00 am followed by lunch.  Starting Monday, May 16 the same clinic will be offered from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm.  The clinics are for the beginner to intermediate player. Any questions please call Rosemarie at 323-7953.  You may also sign up by calling the Club office 323-1733.
